Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Inform Physiotherapy has 2 physiotherapist's trained in Pelvic Health, Rebecca and Tessa.
What is Pelvic Health? Does sneezing, walking, bouncing on the tramp with the kids cause bladder leaks? Are you pregnant or recently given birth to a pēpi (baby)? Pelvic Health Physiotherapy involves assessing the causes for bladder leaks and also gives advice pre and post pregnancy, plus many other issues associated with ‘down there’.
The physiotherapists can provide pre and post-natal assessment, treatment and education as well as pelvic health assessments for incontinence and prolapse.
After giving birth, over 33% of women suffer from urinary incontinence. The condition is very treatable with over 80% success rate with the correct pelvic floor muscle exercise. Unfortunately, a lot of women are unknowingly performing pelvic floor exercises incorrectly and often will give up. The secret is knowing what exercises are appropriate and how to perform them correctly.
The physiotherapist will assess the individual's current strength level and determine the correct exercise and progress the exercises to reach the persons goals, whether that is laughing, sneezing, walking, running or returning to sport and activity. The physiotherapists will also be able to assist women with 'Maternal Birth Injuries' as covered by ACC and in legislation since October 2022.
